Form -- W-9

If you are from a country that does not have a tax treaty with the United States, you still may be able to reduce your tax to 0% if you qualify as a resident for tax purposes (a student who is on an F-1 or J-1 visa and has been present in the United States for 5 years plus 183 days). The worksheet attached to Form W-9 will help you to determine if you truly are a resident for tax purposes. If you qualify for Resident for Tax purposes by completing the form, all excess assistance will be taxed at 0%. If you fail to complete this form you will be taxed at 14%
